I-CORE helped support the 2013 Biennial Retreat of the TAU Cancer Research Center

I-CORE invited Prof. Seishi Ogawa from the Center of Stem Cell Biology of Tokio University, Japan, to speak at the Biennial Retreat of the TAU Cancer Research Center, which took place in Sfat from June 19-22, 2013. Prof. Ogawa is one of the world pioneers in advanced genomic sequencing of cancer. Among his outstanding discoveries are the mutations in the ALK oncogene in neuroblastoma (a discovery that led to application of a specific highly effective targeted therapy), the involvement of CBL in myeloid leukemia and the aberrations in the fundamental machinery of splicing in myelodysplastic syndrome. The data he reported in the Israeli conference is now published in the August 2013 issue of Nature Genetics in three different papers. The latest developments in cancer were discussed in a whirlwind schedule including lectures, roundtable discussions and poster sessions. I-CORE members presented their data, including Shai Izraeli and Dan Peer (co-organizers of the meeting), Gidi Rechavi, Noam Shomron, Ron Shamir, Tami Geiger, Carmit Levy and Livnat Jerby (Eytan Ruppin).
