I-CORE at the First Annual Broad-Israel Cell Circuits Symposium

Members of the I-CORE for Gene Regulation in Complex Human Disease took part in the First Annual Broad-Israel Cell Circuits Symposium, which took place on June 10-12, 2013 at the Konrad Adenauer Conference Center at Mishkenot Sha'ananim, Jerusalem.

Amid a fabulous view of the Old City and the Montefiore Windmill, scientists tackled questions in cell circuitry. The mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, opened the conference, along with the Chairman of the ISF Academic Board, Prof. Benjamin Geiger. The audience was inspired and captivated, as always, by Prof. Eric Lander, world-renowned scientist from the Broad Institute in Cambridge. New I-CORE faculty Tommy Kaplan and Irit Gat-Viks described their research in the chromatin landscape and genetic variation, respectively. I-CORE members Ofer Mandelboim, Eithan Galun, Yuval Dor, Erez Levanon, and Noam Shomron presented their latest data and Karen Avraham and Batsheva Kerem chaired sessions on disease and chromatin. Finally, I-CORE Director Howard Cedar gave a keynote address on the last day of the conference. The Broad Institute–Israel Partnership for Cell Circuit Research was announced, which includes funding for collaborative projects, a postdoctoral training program, and an annual symposium for Israeli and Broad scientists.
