We would like to thank all the participants who took part in the meeting of the I-CORE centers and research authorities, which took place on Sunday, July 28th 2013.

On Sunday, July 28th 2013, the Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC) and the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) held a meeting with the scientific directors, representatives of the scientific managements and administrators of each of the 16 Centers of Excellence - the four established in the first wave (on October 2011), and the twelve established in the second wave (on May 2013), and representatives of the research authorities of the partner institutions in the I-COREs.

The meeting lasted about 3 hours with an impressive presence of over 50 participants, and offered an opportunity for the I-CORE members and the various research authorities representatives to get to know each other, and the PBC and ISF program managers.

The agenda included the following issues:

A. Presentation of the Higher Education multi-year Reform Plan of the PBC, the background for the establishment of the I-CORE program, the objectives of the program and the various opportunities it offers the centers and their group members. Additionally, the 16 I-CORE's were presented - the research fields, members, and the new researchers who joined them thus far. For the presentation press here.

B. Presentation of the practical aspects of the I-COREs' management, in particular the recruitment process of new researchers, budget management, budgetary and scientific reports, and the monitoring and evaluation process. For the presentation press here.

C. Three scientific directors of the first wave I-CORE's, Prof. Howard Cedar, Prof. Yishay Mansour and Prof. Gideon Grader, shared their experience concerning the I-CORE's management and operation, and shared ideas and tips with the directors of the new I-CORE's.

D. Discussion and open session of questions and answers.

We would like to wish success to all the I-CORE's, and are confident that their activities will constitute a focal point for advancing research collaboration between the various research groups, and for strengthening the research fields in Israel.
